Our music programs are completely FREE to our community youth. We begin learning the basics of guitar and rhythm instruments, and once proficiency is achieved, we move on to telling our stories through song. Lyric writing and corrido creation set the target for our after-school music programs.
Learning with the Isotopes
Each year, our students get the absolute blast of an opportunity to create music and art with the Albuquerque Isotopes! We have written poems together, jammed guitar and drums, created "I Am From" stories, and sang traditional songs with our community Topes. Our students have also had the opportunity to attend the games and cheer on our favorite professional community team!
Corridos are cuentos in song.
What more fun way to tell our stories than in song! Our music program and our art program collide when we take our stories and turn them into lyrics. In New Mexico"Corridos" are traditional Mexicano/Manito narrative folk ballads and fables that use oral and literary tradition to set people's stories ablaze in song.

Our current guitar program is being held afterschool at South Valley schools, South Valley Academy and RFK Charter High School. Students from the Albuquerque Metro Area can join the program by signing up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Albuquerque for our RFK Monday after-school program, or by contacting us to join at South Valley Academy on Tuesday afternoons.
